Resume and Cover Letter Tips

When attaching a cover letter to your resume, bear these important pointers in mind.

  • use clean writing paper if it is not an online or emailed job application
  • Apply neat and legible handwriting
  • Address the cover letter to or for the attention of the title or person mentioned in the job ad
  • Alternatively use the hiring Manager’s name if you already work for the same company
  • Reference the job you want on a separate line, which may be a number if advertised
  • Tell them in one simple sentence why you feel you would be a good fit for the job
  • Highlight the most appropriate aspect of your work experience to date or qualifications in another sentence. This can vary depending on the job you are applying for
  • Provide a contact number and sign off – Yours Sincerely is appropriate
  • Finally, do a spell check to eliminate any ¬†unseen errors
